What is a 7th axis for robots?

A 7th axis for robots refers to an additional degree of freedom when it is mounted on a linear guide. Allowing the robot to move in a straight line horizontally or while inverted, the guide extends the operating range beyond the robot’s standard 6-axis capabilities. The 7th axis significantly expands the robot’s functionality and productivity when:

  • Working across multiple workstations or machines
  • Assembling large parts
  • Handling various tasks such as machine tending, sorting & picking, testing & inspection, welding, etc.
